Prachee Vashistha
Raised in a large, joint family, I was immersed in the beauty of a big house with a flourishing garden, filled with vibrant flowers and endless moments of nostalgia. These memories form the core of my creative expression, where every brushstroke carries the warmth and joy of my early years.
I primarily work with watercolors, a medium that slows me down, allowing me to connect deeply with my emotions. Although I am a fast-paced person, watercolors force me to pause, to reflect, and to engage with the delicate and detailed aspects of my work. I continuously strive to evoke the innocence of childhood, transforming those moments into contemporary styles in my paintings. Every painting becomes a story, from the tender hibiscus flowers that remind me of my grandmother’s daily pooja rituals to the series that explores old letters, connecting past and present.
My work is also heavily influenced by mythology and the literary world. As an avid reader, words inspire my art-whether it’s the depth of Maya Angelou’s Caged Bird or the ethereal wisdom of Rumi. Magic is a recurring theme, inspired by Alice in Wonderland, where I imagine falling through a rabbit hole and emerging into a world of wonder.
Art for me is meditation it brings happiness, and through it, I hope to inspire others. My experiences as part of a defence family are also woven into my work, reflecting the solidarity and support that define our community.
